It is so hard to focus on yourself isn’t it because life is so busy and we are constant on the hamster wheel! But what is it to be kind to yourself? We see it all over the socials these days don’t we. Does it mean that I can binge on chocolate and tell myself, ‘I’m being kind to myself! I brought myself a box of chocolates!’. The answer is, not quite. Although I tell myself this sometimes 😊sussshhhh don’t tell.
In its simplest term, it means that we need to remember we are only human. We are all living this life for the first time and instead of having a dress rehearsal to perfect it. We are having to do it for real whilst living it. So does it really matter if we balls things up once in a while. Actually, more than once in a while. Sorry, but I hate to tell you this, but we will mess up. We won’t feel good about it about the more kindness we show ourselves, the better we will feel.
I Am Always Talking To Clients About Positive Affirmations
When we are filling our minds with positive affirmations and compliments about ourselves, we don’t need the validation of others. We become less and less bothered about the opinions of others, as we don’t need them. I turned 40 and literally, from that day I didn’t give a dam! I am what I am. Take me or leave me.
People that I used to surround myself with, used to think that when I shared successes, I was bragging. I wasn’t! I was and am proud of everything I achieve. Sadly, for some reason, Brits don’t like to celebrate each other without there being an altera motive. The rest of the world, in my experience, will celebrate you in every way. It’s one of the reason’s I moved out of the country and chose to surround myself with non-Brits. Of course, there are some exceptions.
These Are My Favourite Affirmations For Being Kind To Yourself
My favourite affirmations that I repeat to myself on and off the yoga mat are these:
I am able to do anything I put my mind to.
I deserve success
I deserve to be happy in my own skin
I am beautiful just the way I am
I am confident in not being perfect
I accept everything about myself, without judgment
So, what do I do when I’m struggling. I repeat 2 or 3 affirmations to myself, whilst I take deep breaths. And do you know what, it works! I recently experienced one of the lowest days I’d had in a very long time. All because I couldn’t control my environment. Totally out of my hands, so I had to deal with it.
Research Has Proven That Affirmations Work
Research suggests that one of the most effective ways to alleviate stress, worry, and general anxieties about our life is to practice more deliberate kindness and self-compassion towards ourselves. They say that when we are doing this, we move away from the difficult moment, and we look at the bigger picture.
Like anything on a journey of self-discovery, it sounds so easy but it’s incredibly hard to do. And trust me, I know! But YOU CAN DO IT!
Showing up for yourself and taking care of yourself isn’t selfish. We need to do it more for the good of our mental health.
